HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1998-134 I I I Sponsored by: ~ CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 98-134 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ENDORSING A PROJECT NOMINATION FOR MILE 12 SEWARD HIGHWAY NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL SYSTEM FOR INCLU- SION IN THE 2000-2002 STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVE- MENTPLAN WHEREAS, on June 10, 1996, the City Council approved Resolution 96-072 urging the State of Alaska to approve the project for the development of a non-motorized sport trail system and adjacent shooting range for summer target practice and winter biathlon races; and WHEREAS, the Seward Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) has requested support from the City Council by endorsing a new Project Nomination Package for inclusion in the FY 2000-2002 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan; and WHEREAS, the project will increase recreation access to the area for hikers and mountain bikers in South-central Alaska; and WHEREAS, the increased winter recreation opportunities will have a positive impact on both the mental and physical health of local residents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Council hereby endorses the following project for inclusion in the 2000- 2002 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan as submitted by the Seward Nordic Ski Club: Mile 12 Seward Highway Non-Motorized Trail System - $205,000 Making improvements to the existing trail, relocating a section of the trail which will be impacted by the widening of the Seward Highway, construction of trail head facilities including signage and restroom facilities and lighting. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd day of November, 1998.
