CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 98-137
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT
IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,088,500 FROM THE STATE OF ALASKA FOR A
REPLACEMENT ELECTRIC GENERATOR AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has received a $1,088,500 state grant for a replacement
electric generator which will be installed in the Ft. Raymond Substation to replace two A1co
generators which have exceeded their useful life; and
WHEREAS, in order to receive this money, the City Council must formally accept the grant;
and
WHEREAS, this grant is not a matching fund type of grant;
WHEREAS, after acceptance by the City and approval of the State, the city will receive 20%
of the funding to start the project; and
WHEREAS, the rest of the funding will be disbursed to the City of Seward after submittal
of proper documentation and billing related to the project to the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, some of the initial funding will be utilized to contract with a consulting
engineering firm to design the system for which RFPs will be issued for a new generator and
controls; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the entire project could cost as high as $1.3 million with
the additional amount of $300,000 being funded from the Electric Enterprise Fund Major Repair &
Replacement Reserves; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that it will take approximately one year to design the project,
issue a request for bids and receive proposals for a new 2500-4000 kw generator with either an
Arctic Pack or a building, and do the actual construction and installation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to accept the State of Alaska Grant
9/99-001 in the amount of $1,088,500 for a replacement electric generator and appropriate
$1,088,500 from State Grant Revenue account 505-??oo..4680-0200, to the Standby Electric

Generator Capital Project Fund of $55,000 is appropriated to Engineering Services account 505-
5050-5180 and $1,033,500 to Equipment account 505-5050-5930.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of November, 1998.
