ORDINANCE NO. 311
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1.108 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES~
ESTABLISHING A QUORUM FOR MEETINGS OF COUNCIL~ THE MINIMUM NUMBER
OF AFFIRMATIVE VOTES REQUIRED FOR PASSAGE OF ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION~ AND PROVIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF ANJr' ACTING MAYOR IN
CASE OF THE ABSENCE OF TIfE MAYOR FROM THE CITY OR TEMPORARY
DISABILITY OF THE M.i\YOR~ OR OTHER CAUSE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS
ABSENCE.
The City of Seward, Alaska ordains:
That Section 1.108 of the Seward General Code be,
and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
"Secti.on 1.108 Quorum At all meetings of the Council,
four (4) members of the Council shall be a quorum
for the transaction of business, but no ordinance,
resolution, motion or question, except a motion to
recess or to adjourn, shall be passed, approved,
adopted, or carried at any meeting unless four members
of the Council shall vote therefor in the affirmative.
In case of the absence of the Mayor from the City
or his temporary disability or other cause responsi-
ble for his absence and, if a. regular quorum of four
members be present, the Council shall elect one of
its members to preside and to otherwise perform the
duties of the Mayor for the meeting in question or
other temporary period involved. The person so
elected shall be known as the Acting Mayor. In case
a quorum is present, and a majority of the votes
cast at a meeting of the Council is cast affirma-
tively for a.n ordinance or resolution, but the number
of such affirmative votes is less than four, the
Council shall vote upon the passage of such ordinance
or resolution at its next meeting following such
vote."
Publication of this ordinance shall be by posting a
copy hereof on the City Hall bulletin board for a period of ten
days following its passage and approval.
