RESOLUTION NO. 98-142
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE
REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE MACERATOR IN LIFT STATION 3
AT A COST OF $16,507.34 AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS
WHEREAS, on November 4, 1998, the macerator in Lift Station 3, at the intersection of
Lowell Point Road and Railway Avenue, experienced a catastrophic failure and was removed on the
morning of November 5 to the City Shop where the maintenance personnel examined it; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that the machine's cutting teeth are non-serviceable and
the cartridge (body) is damaged beyond repair; and
WHEREAS, the grinder, which has been in service non-stop since 1980, was not in
condition to withstand the impact ofthe metal that appeared to have gotten into the cutting teeth and
caused the failure; and
WHEREAS, a replacement unit has been ordered on an "emergency" basis with the prior
approval ofthe City Manager at a cost of$16,507.34;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to purchase replacement parts for
the Macerator in Lift Station 3 at a cost of $16,507.34 and appropriating $16,507.34 from the Sewer
Maintenance, Repair and Replacement Fund Account 702-0000-3050 to the Seward Collection
Maintenance & Repair Account 701-7700-5380.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 23rd
day of November, 1998.
