RESOLUTION NO. 86-39
A RESOLUTICN OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWAHD, ALASKA, HEX;)UESTING '!HAT THE ALASKA NATIONAL
GUAHD CONSIDER SEWARD AS A SITE EDH A GUAHD UNIT
WHEREAS, the City of Seward was at one tirre the site of a very
active Alaska National Guard unit; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward no longer serves as a site for a
u. S. Anny Reserve unit; and
WHEREAS, a large number of students attending the Alaska
Vocational Technical Center are rrernbers of the Alaska National Guard;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is of strategic military impor-
tance and boasts the best natural, ice-free, deep water port in the
Pacific Rim; and
WHEREAS, Seward is the terminus of the Alaska Hailroad and is
an international exporting port; and
WHEREAS, the City will aggressively assist the State in
establishing a National Guard Unit in Seward;
NCW, THEHEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The State of Alaska is urged to consider the City
of Seward as a site for an Alaska National Guard unit.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
