<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2000-113 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, ENDORSING A PROJECT NOMINATION FOR MILE 12 <br />SEWARD HIGHWAY NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL SYSTEM FOR INCLU- <br />SION IN THE RECREATION TRAIL GRANT FOR THE YEAR 2001 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 10, 1996, the City Council approved Resolution 96-072 urging the <br />State of Alaska to approve the project for the development of a non-motorized sport trail system and <br />adjacent shooting range for summer target practice and winter biatWon races; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) has requested support from the City <br />Council by endorsing a new Project Nomination Package for inclusion in the Recreation Trail Grant <br />for the year 2001; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the work would consist of installing appropriate erosion control structures <br />and gates to protect the trail from destruction by eliminating the access to the trail by motorized <br />vehicles; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the project has the potential to increase winter recreation such as hosting <br />events like the Alaska Junior Nordic Championships or the Arctic Winter Games; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the increased trail recreation opportunities will have a positive impact on both <br />the mental and physical health of local residents; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council hereby endorses this project for inclusion in the recreation Trail <br />Grant for the year 2001 as submitted by the Seward Nordic Ski Club: <br /> <br />Section 2.
