<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2000-129 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, SUPPORTING MULTIPLE USE TRAILS AND OUTDOOR <br />RECREATIONAL SPORTS, WITH RESPECT TO THE CHUGACH <br />NATIONAL FOREST REVISED LAND MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, outdoor recreational sports and their participants are a valued winter industry <br />in the Seward area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this industry provides jobs and a benefit to the local economy in the city of <br />Seward and the surrounding area and the board recognizes the positive economic impact of outdoor <br />recreational activities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the importance of involvement of its citizens in winter <br />recreational activities and the need for citizens to access the Chugach National Forest; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Council agrees with the Forest Services' concept of conserving fish and <br />wildlife habitat while providing diverse recreational opportunities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that the current limited access to the Chugach National <br />forest concentrates various user groups in the same areas, accentuating conflict between groups. <br />Improving over all ingress, with new trails for recreational uses, would permit access to a greater <br />area of the National Forest and reduce user conflict; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council deems all recreational users should have access to trails in the <br />Chugach National Forest, and that these trails should not be further restricted to anyone user group; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Port and Commerce advisory board fully supports a "no closure" alternative <br />with respect to the current proposed Chugach National Forest Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council fully supports a concept that would provide additional access for <br />recreational users to the Chugach National Forest; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, with the passage of Resolution 2000-004, the Seward Port and Commerce <br />Advisory Board recommended the Seward City Council pass a resolution supporting multiple use <br />trails and outdoor recreational sports, with respect to the Chugach National Forest Revised Land <br />Management Plan. <br />
