<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2006-05 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZE THE <br />CITY MANAGER EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE <br />STATE OF ALASKA AND THE CITY OF SEWARD FOR THE PURPOSE <br />OF PURCHASING AND INSTALLING WROUGHT IRON FENCING <br />ALONG HOBEN PARK'S NORTH AND WEST BOUNDARIES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of Alaska, Historic Preservation Office has provided the City of <br />Seward with a Historic Preservation Fund grant totaling $19,800 for the purpose of purchasing <br />and installing wrought iron fencing; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the total project cost is anticipated at $33,000 with a Federal share of <br />$19,800 and a local match of $13,200, of which, the City's match for this project will be <br />provided by funds already dedicated to the Hoben Park Capital Project Fund for the <br />reconstruction; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the community will benefit from the historic Hoben Park restoration <br />project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward is in the process of restoring the historic Hoben Park, <br />in accordance with the historic restoration plan approved by Council Resolution 2003-85; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission passed a motion of support <br />at the August 24, 2005 meeting and proposed that the City apply for a grant to assist with the <br />historic reconstruction of Hoben Park; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council approved Resolution 2005-95 authorizing the City <br />Manager to submit an application for a Historic Preservation fund grant to continue the historic <br />restoration of Hoben Park. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Historic Preservation Commission hereby recommends that the City <br />Council authorize the City Manager to execute the Historic Preservation Fund grant from the <br />State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources in order to purchase and install approximately <br />260 feet of wrought iron fencing along Hoben Park's north and west boundaries. <br />
