<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />..... <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION 2006-08 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, REQUESTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION <br />TO INCREASE THE HEIGHT OF THE HOBEN PARK <br />CONCRETE RETAINING WALLS TO AN APPROXIMATE <br />HEIGHT OF 50 TO 52 INCHES, AND REPLACE ORIGINAL OR <br />REPLICA WROUGHT IRON FENCE COMMENSURATE WITH <br />THE AUTHORIZED DESIGN CRITERIA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the intent of this project to restore the park to its period of <br />historic significance, approximately 1920s to 1940s, and it is appropriate to carefully <br />consider the design criteria of the replacement wrought iron fence; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the new retaining wall inside Hoben Park was dramatically reduced <br />in size, causing issues which must now be dealt with; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the suggested new Hoben Park fencing shall meet the Secretary of <br />the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitation; and <br /> <br />..... WHEREAS, rebuilding the concrete wall to a sub-total height of approximately <br />32 to 36 inches will allow the wrought iron fence original height of 18 inches to be used, <br />still providing a safe height, pleasing aesthetics and historic accuracy. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC <br />PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Historic Preservation Commission requests the concrete retaining <br />wall be added for a height of 32 to 36 inches. <br /> <br />Section 2. The listed design criteria of the wrought iron fence is hereby adopted. <br /> <br />Section 3. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Historic Preservation Council of the City of <br />Seward, Alaska, this 11 th day of October, 2006. <br /> <br />..... <br />
