<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />.... <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION 2007-03 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, ESTABLISHING APPLICATION PROCEDURES <br />AND ELIGIBIILlTY CRITERIA FOR NOMINATIONS TO A <br />SEWARD HISTORIC PLANT & TREE REGISTER; AND <br />FORWARDING A PROPOSED ORDINANCE TO THE SEWARD <br />CITY COUNCIL TO CREATE A SEWARD HISTORIC PLANT & <br />TREE REGISTER <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Historic Preservation Commission to <br />work toward the continuing education of citizens regarding local historic preservation <br />and community history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Plant & Tree Register is proposed to preserve <br />and recognize the significant plants and trees in our community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the goals of the Seward Historic Plant & Tree Register are to <br />recognize and designate individual plants and trees with Community significance, <br />__ educate the public about the history, promote appreciation and public awareness and to <br />document and recognize in order to foster the willingness to protect those plants and trees <br />as part of Seward's heritage and provide a valuable historic resource; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward. Historic Plant & Tree Register will mirror the Seward <br />Register of Historic Places. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, ll~ n ~~O"'Vfi:Q by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: . ' I. <br /> <br />Section 1. The following pro\=edure will be used to nominate a plant or tree to <br />the Seward Historic Plant & Tree Regist~r: <br /> <br />1. Obtain an application (sample attached) and cover letter from the City <br />Community Development Department, Seward Museum or Community <br />Library . <br />2. Submit fmal application to Seward Historic Preservation Commission for <br />approval and recommendation to City Council. <br />3. The City Council will add the plant or tree to the local register by <br />resolution. <br /> <br />- <br />
