Ej Sponsored by: Mayor Dunham <br /> Law <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2010 -031 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF THE JAPAN AND ALASKA <br /> JUJIRO WADA MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION TRADE MISSION <br /> EXCHANGING OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW TRAVEL TRADE VIA <br /> TOURISM MARKET PROMOTION OF MARATHON AND SPORT <br /> EVENTS AND APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF A $5,000 <br /> DISCRETIONARY GRANT AND AN UNDER $2,000 ALASKA <br /> HUMANITIES FORUM GRANT TO ASSIST WITH COSTS ASSOCIATED <br /> WITH TRAVEL FOR THE TRADE MISSION EXECUTIVE DELEGATES <br /> AND THEIR PLANNED PROPOSAL <br /> WHEREAS, individuals have discussed and collaborated with Japan to bring a Japan <br /> Marathoners Trade Delegation to Alaska to promote tourism and grow travel trade between Alaska <br /> and Japan, while partaking in statewide running events; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Japan and Alaska Jujiro Wada Memorial Associations were formed in <br /> honor of the legendary Jujiro Wada and his pioneering spirit, the surveying and blazing of the <br /> Iditarod Trail, and his many contributions to the State of Alaska; and <br /> WHEREAS, Chairperson Takumi Doi, of the Japan Jujiro Wada Memorial Association was <br /> reporting to the Mayor of Matsuyama City on establishing a city to city friendship relationship with <br /> Seward; and <br /> WHEREAS, a proposal has been received by the Alaska Jujiro Wada Memorial Association <br /> to support a seven -day trade mission, and Seward has the opportunity to assist with hosting this <br /> delegation and runners this September, 2010; and <br /> WHEREAS, two grant opportunities have been submitted on Seward's behalf to assist the <br /> Alaska Jujiro Wada Memorial Association to defray costs associated with the trade mission <br /> executive group and start up of the Jujiro Wada history project website; and <br /> WHEREAS, according to the proposal received, the City of Seward's obligations would be <br /> assisting with hosting a reception, and the establishment of an inaugural run over the Labor Day <br /> weekend. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> ,,,� Section 1.
