Sponsored by: Staff <br /> i gew <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> RESOLUTION 2010 -02 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br /> COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL PLACE <br /> THE SEWARD LIGHT AND POWER COMPANY INTAKE BUILDING ON <br /> THE SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES <br /> WHEREAS, City Council Ordinance No. 95 -10, established the Seward Register of Historic <br /> Places in order to locally recognize properties important in Seward's history; and <br /> WHEREAS, an application to place the Seward Light and Power Company Intake Building <br /> on the Seward Register of Historic Places has been submitted to the Historic Preservation <br /> Commission for review and recommendation to the City Council; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Seward Light and Power Company Intake Building application has been <br /> reviewed and the recommendation approved by the Resurrection Bay Historical Society as per <br /> procedure for nomination to the Seward Register of Historic Places; and <br /> WHEREAS, this structure was built in the summer of 1923 and played an important role in <br /> supplying Seward with electricity until 1950; and <br /> WHEREAS, the application has been reviewed and found in order by the Seward Historic <br /> Preservation Commission. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br /> Commission that: <br /> Section 1. The Seward Light and Power Company Intake Building is eligible for placement <br /> on the Seward Register of Historic Places as a property associated with historic events or persons of <br /> local and state significance. <br /> Section 2. It is hereby recommended that the City Council list the Seward Light and Power <br /> Company Intake Building on the Seward Register of Historic Places. <br /> Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br />
