Sponsored by: Commission <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> RESOLUTION 2011 -002 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br /> COMMISSION, SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT, MISSION AND VALUES <br /> OF THE SEWARD COMMUNITY LIBRARY MUSEUM <br /> WHEREAS, Since 2003, a group of community minded citizens, with the support of <br /> Mayor Edgar Blatchford, have volunteered their time and expertise to create a plan to build a <br /> new library museum; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2008 the Seward Community Library Museum Steering Committee <br /> adopted a vision statement which outlines the goal of creating efficiencies of service by <br /> combining professional expertise, staff and materials to offer information, education and historic <br /> preservation services in a central community commons space; and <br /> WHEREAS, major milestones toward completing those goals include over $1M in local <br /> donations of cash, in -kind and services, a $4.7M State of Alaska construction grant, $1M total <br /> him from Rasmuson Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities, including 226 donors <br /> who have made 387 donations to the project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Seward has re- codified the library department as the library <br /> museum department, hired a part time employee for the museum and directed library museum <br /> staff to serve as City liaison to the Seward Historic Preservation Commission. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br /> Commission of the City of Seward, Alaska that: <br /> Section 1. The Seward Historic Preservation Commission acknowledges the concept, mission <br /> and values of the Seward Community Library Museum and the foundation of support they <br /> provide to the work of the Historic Preservation Commission, now and in the future. <br /> Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> PASSED AND APPROVED by the City of Seward, Alaska this 20 day of April, 2011. <br />
