Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2012 -037 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE SEWARD /KENAI PENINSULA HIGHWAY <br /> TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR SAFETY INITIATIVE <br /> WHEREAS, the Seward and Sterling highways are among the most critical and heavily <br /> traveled traffic corridors in the state of Alaska; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Seward and Sterling highways provide access for all visitors and users to <br /> Kenai Peninsula communities and state resources; and <br /> WHEREAS, geography, weather and roadway configurations combine to make the traffic <br /> corridors from Anchorage to Seward and Homer very dangerous; and <br /> WHEREAS, a well- conceived, funded and implemented plan for upgrades and <br /> improvements for the Seward and Sterling highways will result in fewer traffic accidents and <br /> fatalities; and <br /> WHEREAS, improved traveling safety for our families, children, businesses and visitors is <br /> among our highest of priorities. <br /> tar <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward supports convening a comprehensive <br /> group of stakeholders committed to securing safe ground transportation from Anchorage to Seward <br /> and the western Kenai Peninsula. <br /> Section 2. The City Council of the City of Seward supports preparation of a Memorandum of <br /> Agreement to define the objectives of the stakeholder group. <br /> Section 3. The Memorandum of Agreement shall be signed by all stakeholders and <br /> communicated to all pertinent local, state and federal agencies. <br /> Section 4. Citizen user groups will be educated regarding the extent of problems and fully <br /> engaged in identifying and implementing solutions to the problems. <br /> Section 5. A stakeholders' oversight group shall be formed to follow implementation of <br /> solutions in a timely manner. <br /> itro <br />
