Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> 1�... <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2012 -040 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A ONE YEAR CONTRACT FOR $556,000.00 <br /> WITH THE STATE OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, TO <br /> PROVIDE FOR OPERATING THE SEWARD COMMUNITY JAIL AND <br /> HOUSING PRISONERS CHARGED AND /OR SENTENCED UNDER <br /> ALASKA STATUTES <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Seward has received a proposed one year contract from the State of <br /> Alaska for the operation of the Seward Community Jail; and <br /> WHEREAS, the contract amount for the City of Seward is $556,000.00, an increase of <br /> $22,790.00 from the 2011 contract, to operate the Seward Community Jail in accordance with the <br /> attached contract from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The Seward City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to enter into a one <br /> los year contract for $556,000.00 with the State of Alaska, Department of Corrections, to provide for <br /> operating the Seward Community Jail and housing prisoners charged and /or sentenced under Alaska <br /> Statutes. <br /> Section 2. The City Council hereby instructs Administration to continue lobbying for <br /> additional state funding of the Seward Community Jail such that the local tax payers are not asked to <br /> subsidize the cost of operating the jail for state - related offenses. <br /> Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br />
