Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2012 -075 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, CONTINUING THE STATE OF DISASTER EMERGENCY DUE <br /> DECLARED SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 BY THE CITY MANAGER AND <br /> AUTHORIZED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 24 2012, <br /> REQUESTING INTER - JURISDICTION ASSISTANCE <br /> WHEREAS, beginning on September 15, 2012, substantial heavy rainfall coupled with high <br /> winds began to affect the City of Seward and outlying areas; and <br /> WHEREAS, on September 19, 2012, flooding conditions worsened and an Emergency <br /> Operations Center was opened by the City of Seward to protect life and coordinate emergency <br /> response efforts; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Manager of the City of Seward issued a Disaster Emergency <br /> Declaration on September 19, 2012 at 1:15pm; and <br /> WHEREAS, City Council authorized the Manager's declaration on September 24, 2012, <br /> and, <br /> r.r. <br /> WHEREAS, such declarations of disaster can only be continued or renewed for a period in <br /> excess of seven (7) days by or with the consent of the governing body, and <br /> WHREEAS, a state of emergency beyond the City's financial capability continues to exist, <br /> requiring additional resources from inter jurisdictional sources, and <br /> WHEREAS, a continuation of the Declaration of Emergency requesting those resources was <br /> requested by the City Manager of the City of Seward on September 26th at 1:15 pm. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. A disaster emergency per Alaska Statute 26.23.140; is declared to continue to <br /> exist within the City of Seward. <br /> Section 2. Per Alaska Statute 26.23.140 this resolution extends the disaster emergency <br /> declaration made by the City Manager of the City of Seward for a period of sixty (60) days in order <br /> to allow for appropriate response to the disaster by the City of Seward, Kenai Peninsula Borough, <br /> and the State of Alaska. <br />
