Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2012 -094 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A <br /> COOPERATIVE FIRE MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE <br /> FOREST SERVICE, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE <br /> AND THE CITY OF SEWARD <br /> WHEREAS, the Forest Service has responsibility for prevention, detection and suppression <br /> of wildland fires on National Forest administrated lands, and on adjacent lands or intermingled State <br /> and private lands for which the Forest Service has assumed fire management responsibility through <br /> agreements with the State of Alaska, Division of Forestry and the Bureau of Land Management, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Seward Fire Department has responsibility for prevention, detection and <br /> suppression of all fires including wildland fires within the City of Seward; and <br /> WHEREAS, structures and land protected by the Seward Fire Department are intermingled <br /> or adjacent to lands protected by the Forest Service; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is mutually advantageous and in the best interest for the Seward Fire <br /> Department and the Forest Service to coordinate their efforts in the prevention, detection and <br /> suppression of wildland fires in and adjacent to their areas of responsibility. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The Council hereby finds that, for the reason stated above, the Cooperative Fire <br /> Management agreement is in the public interest. <br /> Section 2. The Cooperative Fire Management agreement between the Forest Service USDA <br /> and the City of Seward is hereby approved in substantial form as attached hereto and the City <br /> Manager is authorized to sign the agreement in substantial form on behalf of the City of Seward. <br /> Section 3. The Council authorizes the Fire Chief to review and modify the Annual <br /> Operating Plan (AOP) in accordance with the terms of the Mutual Aid Agreement. <br /> Section 4. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 10`" day of <br /> December, 2012. <br />
