Sponsored by: Hunt and Kinney <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2014-045 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, AUTHORIZING A DONATION OF $2,000 TO THE <br /> RESURRECTION BAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO HOST THE <br /> MUSEUMS ALASKA / ALASKA HISTORICAL SOCIETY JOINT <br /> ANNUAL CONFERENCE OCTOBER 1-4, 2014 TO BE HELD IN <br /> SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> WHEREAS, on October 1-4, 2014, the Alaska Historical Society and Museums Alaska, <br /> the statewide museums association, will hold their annual joint conference in Seward; and <br /> WHEREAS, this is the first time Seward has hosted the meeting, and Resurrection Bay <br /> Historical Society members are working with Museums Alaska and Alaska Historical Society to <br /> host the event; and <br /> WHEREAS, the conference theme for the Alaska Historical Society is Gateways: Past, <br /> Present and Future and will focus attention on the area's vibrant past, including the deep history <br /> of Alaska Native people, Russian shipbuilding and fur trading, and Seward's role as a port and <br /> transportation hub in the American era; and <br /> WHEREAS, the conference theme for Museums Alaska is Milestones: Interpreting <br /> Events That Change The Course Of Communities and will explore the opportunities and <br /> challenges museums face in commemorating community milestones ranging from the tragic to <br /> the triumphant; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is estimated the conference will bring about 200 visitors to Seward; and <br /> WHEREAS, at the March 24, 2014 council meeting, the City Council discussed and <br /> directed to have a resolution come forward to authorize a donation to the Resurrection Bay <br /> Historical Society to help with hosting the event; and <br /> WHEREAS, it was requested to have a $2,000 donation come from the City Council and <br /> City Manager budgets. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The Seward City Council and the City Manager are authorized to make a <br /> donation of$2,000 to the Resurrection Bay Historical Society to help with hosting efforts of their <br /> 2014 Joint Annual Conference in Seward, Alaska. <br /> Section 2. $1,000 is authorized from Mayor/Council Promotions account number 101- <br /> i. <br />
