Sponsored by: Hunt <br /> O CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> RESOLUTION 2014-081 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br /> ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT GRANT <br /> FUNDS FROM THE ALASKA DIVISION OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND <br /> EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $65,461.90 FOR <br /> PURCHASE OF VEHICLE EXTRICATION EQUIPMENT AND <br /> APPROPRIATING FUNDS <br /> WHEREAS, in May of 2014 the Fire Departments vehicle extrication tool snapped while <br /> being used during a training exercise; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Seward Fire Department has been researching replacement options for this <br /> tool as repair was not economically feasible due to equipment age and lack of local support of the <br /> brand,but due to the high cost of replacement equipment did not have funding to move forward;and <br /> WHEREAS,while researching the best options for replacement equipment,we learned that <br /> our neighboring mutual aid department Moose Pass Fire had similar needs and short falls; and <br /> WHEREAS, interoperable extrication equipment for motor vehicle accidents is an essential <br /> component of local emergency operations of the Seward Fire Department and Moose Pass Fire <br /> Department; and <br /> WHEREAS, grant funds became available through a reallocation of Homeland Security <br /> Grant Program Funds and our request to purchase new vehicle extrication equipment for both <br /> Seward Fire and Moose Pass Fire Departments has been awarded. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SEWARD,ALASKA that: <br /> Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept Homeland Security Grant <br /> Program(HSGP)Funds in the amount of$65,461.90 for purchase of new extrication equipment for <br /> both the Moose Pass and Seward Fire Departments. <br /> Section 2. Per Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency management grant <br /> documents,the City of Seward will be responsible for annual audits of the status and condition of the <br /> extrication equipment for both departments. <br /> Section 3. Funds in the amount of$65,461.90 are hereby appropriated from State grant funds <br /> account no. 30025-0000-4251 to equipment account no. 30025-0000-8103. <br /> j Section 4. This resolution shall take effect upon approval by Council. <br />
