<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Postponed Indefinitely <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Clerk <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2001-049 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, INCREASING MUNICIPAL CEMETERY DEPOSITS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward is the owner of the public cemetery; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Resolution 97-094 established cemetery fees, rules and regulations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS,a properly managed and maintained cemetery reflects well on community image <br />and provides peace of mind for relatives of deceased friends and family; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, accurate burial markers are essential to provide for identification of burial <br />locations so that family and friends can locate individuals in the future; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the current deposit rate for the burial marker deposit fee does not cover the <br />actual costs of the City purchasing a marker that meets the requirements set forth in Resolution 97- <br />094; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is no deposit rate to pay for the actual costs of clean-up which is often <br />provided by the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS,these deposits are fully returned once the City verifies adequate clean up of the <br />site is provided and a headstone, meeting the requirements, is placed on the grave site; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Community Cemeteries Management Action Plan was <br />recommended for approval by the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning and Zoning <br />Commission and adopted by City Council Resolution 96-083; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS,the Seward Community Cemeteries Management Action Plan recommends that <br />the citizens of Seward should not bear the cost of the cemetery through general tax levies because <br />the cemetery is a function that does not directly benefit all citizens. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The following deposit relating to permitting and use of all cemeteries within the <br />city is adopted and updates the former deposit amount: <br /> <br />Burial permit fee <br />Burial marker deposit <br />City employee/equipment <br /> <br />$25.00 (SAME) <br />$100.00 $400.00 <br />Billed at current city work order hourly rate (SAME) <br />
