<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2001-051 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE <br />DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE CITY-OWNED PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF FOURTH AVENUE AND ADAMS <br />STREET; AND APPROPRIATING $5,000.00 FROM THE CAPITAL <br />ACQUISITION LAND FUND TO THE FOURTH AND ADAMS PARK FUND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in August, 2000 the City of Seward purchased Lots 1,2 and 3, Block 10, <br />Original Townsite of Seward for the purpose of developing needed public facilities, including a bus <br />pullout, covered waiting area, public restrooms and park area, that would assist with downtown <br />revitalization; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at the request of the City Manager, a committee of the Downtown Business <br />Association was created to prepare a development concept design for the property; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Carol Chaudiere presented the preliminary concept design to the Planning and <br />Zoning Commission at its January 2, 2001 meeting; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Downtown Business Association has reviewed and supports the concept <br />design; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the concept design plan is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan, Parks and <br />Recreation Master Plan and the Municipal Land Management Plan which recommend that the city <br />purchase vacant downtown land for a "town square" park; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed development is also consistent with the Strategic Plan which <br />recommends continuing to support and encourage the revitalization of downtown by identifying a <br />location for public restrooms and funding construction; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing at its April 3, 200 I <br />meeting, and approved Resolution 2001-06, recommending City Council approval of the design <br />concept and appropriation of funds to complete phase one of the project development <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The attached design concept for city-owned Lots I, 2 and 3, Block 10, <br />Original Townsite of Seward, located at the southwest comer of Fourth Avenue and Adams Street, <br />is hereby approved. <br />
