<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2001-080 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, RECOMMENDING SUPPORT OF THE MCDONALD POINT <br />PROJECT. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, demand for small boat moorage in Seward is greater then the available <br /> <br />moorage; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward has actively sought expansion of moorage facilities for many <br />years; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward has an active federal project for the expansion of the Seward <br />Small Boat Harbor that is pending appropriation of federal funds; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Alaska Barge and Salvage, through Mr. Tim McDonald has proposed <br />developing McDonald Point into a small boat harbor and multi-use shipping facility; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this development would benefit the local economy through increased moorage <br />capacity, increased shipping activity and increased employment opportunities; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, development of a private mooring facility would be a benefit to the Seward area <br />and Alaska as a whole by establishing market rates for wet slips in Alaska; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, funding for this private marina would not compete for federal funding and <br />thereby jeopardize the current active project for Seward. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, supports the private development <br />of McDonald Point into a marina and multi-use shipping facility. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska authorizes the City Manager to <br />monitor the progress of the project, propose incentives and to assist the developer in any manner <br />allowed by the City of Seward Code of Ordinances, policies or City Council directive. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 25th <br />day ofJune, 2001. <br /> <br />THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> <br /><C~ .\~~ / <br /> <br />Edgar Blatchford, Mayor <br />
