<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2001-086 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A USDA <br />ECONOMIC RECOVERY PROGRAM GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE <br />KENAI SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Chugach National Forest has invited eligible communities to participate in <br />the USDA Economic Recovery Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the program was established in the 1990 Farm Bill, and authorized the Forest <br />Service to assist communities in diversifying their local economies; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward is eligible to participate in the program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District has requested the City's <br />assistance in submitting an application for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Greenhouse <br />Initiative, Phase I - Seward High School Greenhouse Renovation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the project consists of renovating the Seward High School greenhouse in order <br />to implement an educational program for sustainable forestry and grow nursery seedling trees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS. both the 1991 Seward Comprehensive Plan and 1999 Strategic Plan include <br />educational components which support improving and expanding the local educational facilities. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit a USDA Economic Recovery <br />Program application on behalf of the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District for the Kenai <br />Peninsula Borough School District Greenhouse Initiative, Phase I - Seward High School Greenhouse <br />Renovation. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th day <br />ofJuly, 2001. <br />
