<br />Sponsored by Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2S.::Ol <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, SUPPORTING THE SEWARD SENIOR CITIZENS, INC. PROJECT <br />TO RELOCATE THE SENIOR CENTER AND PROVIDE SENIOR CITIZEN <br />HOUSING AT THE JESSE LEE HOME <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Jesse Lee Home has long been one of, it not the most, visible historic <br />structures in Seward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, with the assistance of a matching grant from the State Historic Preservation <br />Office, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission completed a National Register of Historic <br />Places Nomination for the Jesse Lee Home; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1985 Seward Comprehensive Plan encourages the preservation of <br />individual historic houses and commercial buildings and groups of historic structures; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1990 update notes that Seward derives part of its unique character from <br />its historic architecture and this character must be saved; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Senior Citizens, Inc. is pursuing grants for Historic Preservation <br />of the Jesse Lee Home buildings and site as well as funds through the Alaska Housing Finance <br />Corporation in order to relocate the Senior Center and provide senior housing; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is a documented need for senior citizen housing in the Seward area; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Seward Historic Preservation Commission supports the Seward Senior <br />Citizens, Inc. project to acquire and renovate the Jesse Lee Home in order to relocate the Senior <br />Center and provide senior housing. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 18th <br />day of January, 1995. <br />
