<br />Sponsored by Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 22=02 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL PLACE <br />THE CAMERON HOUSE ON THE SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC <br />PLACES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City Council Ordinance No. 95-10, established the Seward Register of <br />Historic Places in order to locally recognize properties important in Seward's history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an application to place the Cameron House on the Seward Register of <br />Historic Places has been prepared for review and recommendation to the City Council; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Cameron House, also known as the Romig House, was constructed in <br />1905 on Lots 9 and 10, Block 25, Original Townsite of Seward, by Alaska Central Railway <br />Engineer J.B. Cameron; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Cameron House is located within what is known as "Millionaires Row, " <br />a group of six homes built in 1905 by and for Alaska Central Railway department heads; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the building is significant for its association with the founding of Seward, and <br />the development of the Alaska Central Railway; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the structure is also historically significant for its use as Seward's first <br />hospital facility beginning in 1911. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Cameron House is eligible for placement on the Seward Register of <br />Historic Places as a property associated with historic events or persons of local and state <br />significance. <br /> <br />Section 2. It is hereby recommended that the City Council place the Cameron House on <br />the Seward Register of Historic Places. <br /> <br />Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br />
