<br />Sponsored by Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 22:M <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL PLACE <br />THE HOLLAND HOUSE ON THE SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC <br />PLACES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City Council Ordinance No. 95-10, established the Seward Register of <br />Historic Places in order to locally recognize properties important in Seward's history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an application to place the Holland House on the Seward Register of Historic <br />Places has been prepared for review and recommendation to the City Council; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Holland House, was constructed in 1905 on Lot 12, Block 25, Original <br />Townsite of Seward, by Murray B. Holland, general store keeper for the Alaska Central Railway; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Holland House is located within what is known as "Millionaires Row, " <br />a group of six homes built in 1905 on Third Avenue, between Madison and Jefferson Streets, by <br />and for Alaska Central Railway department heads; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the building is significant for its association with the founding of Seward, and <br />the development of the Alaska Central Railway. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Holland House is eligible for placement on the Seward Register of Historic <br />Places as a property associated with historic events or persons of local and state significance. <br /> <br />Section 2. It is hereby recommended that the City Council place the Holland House on <br />the Seward Register of Historic Places. <br /> <br />Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 21st <br />day of April, 1999. <br />
