<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -03 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, SUPPORTING THE QUTEKCAK NA TIVE TRIBE'S PLAN <br />TO DEVELOP A LOCAL DISPLAY FACILITY IN SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council is the recognized Native governing body for the <br />community of Seward, Alaska; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council has identified a need, for a Local Display Facility <br />to house Native artifacts located or disturbed during the 1989 oil spill and related clean-up activity; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Local Display Facility will provide a location for meetings and workshops: <br />and a means of integrating the Native elder and youth programs to create a living museum where both <br />the past and future are represented; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, building a Local Display Facility is a means to preserving the history and culture <br />ofthe Native people of Seward and a means to furthering the awareness and education of the culture <br />of the Native people of Seward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Qutekcak Tribal Council has committed to provide financial support for the <br />Local Display Facility to guarantee that it will be managed and operated for a minimum of twenty <br />years. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Seward Historic Preservation Commission hereby supports the Qutekcak <br />Native Tribe's Local Display Facility project. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 14th day <br />of March, 2001. <br />
