<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001-06 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION, <br />RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZATION TO SUBMIT TO THE STATE <br />OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, AN APPLICATION FOR A <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT TO PLAN AND PRODUCE A SEWARD <br />CENTENNIAL SYMPOSIUM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of1966, certain <br />federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified local <br />governments; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 2003 Seward will celebrate its centennial; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Seward's centennial presents an opportunity for community celebrations and <br />educational activities focused on the history of Seward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission proposes to apply for a historic <br />preservation matching grant to plan and produce a symposium that will provide the foundation event <br />of the Seward Centennial, 2003; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the total project cost is estimated at $25,850.00, with a federal share of <br />$15,510.00, and a local match of$10,340.00. The City's match for this project will be provided by <br />cash, in-kind, and donated goods and services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an identified goal of the City of Seward Strategic Plan is to plan and celebrate <br />the Seward Centennial in 2003. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. It is hereby recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to <br />submit an application to the State of Alaska for a federal historic preservation matching grant to plan <br />and coordinate a Seward Centennial Symposium as the foundation event of Seward's centennial in <br />2003. <br /> <br />Section 2. It is further recommended that the City Council budget the funds necessary to <br />complete the Seward Centennial Symposium. <br /> <br />Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br />
