<br />Sponsored by: Historic Preservation Commission <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION 2003-03 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION, <br />RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZATION TO SUBMIT TO THE STATE <br />OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, AN APPLICATION FOR A <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT TO UPDATE THE SEWARD HISTORIC <br />PRESERVATION PLAN (1996) <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of1966, certain <br />federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified local <br />governments; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Historic Preservation Commission to develop and <br />maintain the Seward Historic Preservation Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Phase I of the Seward Historical Preservation Plan was completed in 1993 and <br />Phase II was completed and approved by Council in 1996; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a subsequent phase of the Plan is needed to provide current and archival photos <br />and more historical detail for the one hundred and eighty three (183) structures listed on the Seward <br />Historical Site Inventory; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a subsequent phase of the Plan is also needed to provide recommendations on <br />specific actions which can be taken to accomplish the Goals and Objectives ofthe prior phases; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission passed a motion of support at the <br />September 24, 2003 meeting and propose applying for a historic preservation fund matching grant to <br />update the Seward Historic Preservation Plan approved in 1996; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the total project cost is estimated at $33,333.00, with a federal share of <br />$20,000.00, and a local match of$13,330.00. The City's match for this project will be provided by <br />cash, in-kind, and donated goods and services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the grant will require City Council to provide $12,000.00 matching funds from <br />the General and $1,333.00 will be provided with in-kind donated labor. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br />
