<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004-04 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF mE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMIS~, <br />RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZE mE CITY MANAbER TO <br />SUBMIT TO THE STATE OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF NA TURAL}~QURCES, <br />AN APPLICATION FOR A HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND G~~~T}JYHIRE A <br />SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR FOR THE JESSE LEE HOME ,,/ <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic P~rvation Act of 1966, <br />certain federal share matching grants for historic preservation projepts~available to certified <br />local governments; and ~ <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Jesse Lee Home is on the NatiOnjl~~er of Historic Places and is <br />one of the most notable historic structures in Seward an~~ one of the most frangible; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Jesse Lee Home ~~);tructure Report (2003) provides cost <br />estimates for rehabilitation and the first phase 01 ~~ation should be stabilization; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, grants will be need~ rehabilitate the structure; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a special proj~rdinator for the Jesse Lee Home could be hired to <br />write grants, coordinate with the ~~ solicit the support of civic groups, and perform public <br />outreach activities; and V\.I) <br /> <br />WHEREAS, thes('i),pes of activities will highlight Seward's ongoing concerns for <br />historic preservation.. ~\n'contribute to the rehabilitation ofthe Jesse Lee Home; and <br /> <br />WHER~~e total project cost for a special projects coordinator is estimated at <br />$33,333.00, ;iili"~~~ral share of $20,000.00, and a local match of $13,333.00. The City's <br />match for ~}roject will be provided by cash, in-kind, and donated goods and services; and <br /> <br />=@EREAS,theComprehenSiVeplan(1990)SUpportssaving historic buildings and the <br />p . n of Seward's history and the Strategic Plan (1999) encourages the recognition, <br />reha . itation and preservation of Historic Sites and Buildings and the Historic Preservation <br />Plan (1996) emphasizes continuing the education of citizens regarding local history. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br />
