<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD <br />PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION 2003-09 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING <br />COMMISSION, RECOMENDlNG THAT THE CITY COUCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, OFFICIALLY PROCLAIM THE NAME <br />"PAT WILLIAMS PARK" TO THE CITY PARK LOCATED AT 711 <br />BALLAINE BOULEVARD; THE AREA WEST OF BALLAINE <br />BOULEVARD, BETWEEN MONROE STREET AND "B" STREET <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS "WILLIAMS PARK" <br /> <br />WHEREAS, sometime between 1996 and 1997, Pat Williams' single phone call stopped <br />the clear-cutting of Spruce trees in the little park which later became known as "Williams Park." <br />Without her voice, it is likely this wonderfully green area would be a flat, level, gray rock, <br />parking lot; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, improvements have continued to 'spruce' up the park: gravel roadways, <br />tent sites, water service, landscaping, fIre rings, individual camp sites, group camping areas, tent <br />pads, etc; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams has contributed to our community through contributions, <br />politics; professionally and historically as she recently details the memories of her yester-years <br />as we all celebrate Seward's Centennial; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is a friend of the park and a watchful and reporting eye, <br />informing the City of Seward of inappropriate park abuses; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on May 7, 2003, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public <br />hearing on the offIcial naming ofthe park. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Commission recommends that the area of the City owned park located at 711 <br />Ballaine Boulevard; the area west ofBallaine Boulevard, between Monroe Street and "B" Street <br />commonly known as "Williams Park" be officially named "Pat Williams Park". <br />
