<br />Minutes of the regular meeting of the Seward <br />City Counoil. held January 5th, I920. <br /> <br />2n~ <br />i'G..L <br /> <br />The meeting was oalled to order at 8 p.m. by Mayor Cham- <br />berlin, and all members were present except Counoilman S. M. Graf . <br /> <br />The minutes of the meetings of December Ist, I5th, and 26th, <br />were read and approved. . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A Cummunioation from Mayor Chamberlin to the City Counoil <br />was read, the same refering to the present inadequate Light and <br />Water Systems, now being conduoted in Seward, by private owner- <br />ship, and suggested Municipal oontrOl of these Systems, as the <br />best method of serving the public. <br /> <br />Counoilman J. L. Graef seconded by Council Horner moved that <br />the Cummunioation be accepted and filed, and brought to the atten- <br />tion of the Counoil, under the head of new business. At the call <br />of the roll all members present voted "aye". Motion oarried. <br /> <br />A Cummunioation from Hugh Dougherty, City Treasurer, was <br />read, stating in brief, the amount of cash on hand in the City <br />Banks, and further requesting, that owing to the extra amount of <br />work he had put in on the City Books, that he be reimbursed in <br />t~e amount of $ IOO.OO. <br /> <br />Councilman Horner seoonded by Counoilman Whittemore moved <br />that the Cummunioation be refered to the Finance Committee for a <br />report at the next regular meeting. At the call of the rolJ all <br />members present voted "aye". I <br /> <br />~ Councilman Lucas seconded by Councilman Horner then moved <br />that the Clerk be instruoted to draw a warrant in the amount of <br />$ 100.00 in favor,of Walter W. Lukens, as payment in full for the <br />work he performed last July in Drafting Plans for the Proposed <br />Municipal Floating Dook. At the oall of the roll all members <br />present voted "aye". Motion oarried. <br /> <br />The matter of appointing a. Sexton for The City Cemetary, <br />went over until the next regula~ meeting. <br /> <br />The Cummunioation from Mayor Chamberlin was again taken up <br />and discussed, and Counoilman Luoas seconded by Councilman J. L. <br />Graef moved, that the Mayor apPOint a Committee of (2) to inves- <br />tigate the Light and Water Systems, and call on the owners of <br />these plants, and see what could be done, and to further inves- <br />tigate the advisability of holding a Muntoipal Eleotion some- <br />time in February, for the purpose of Bonding the City of Seward, <br />so that its financial baoking would be suff1cent to warrant <br />Municipal Ownership of Light and Water Systems.
