ORDINANCE 2000-08
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AMENDING THE LAND USE PLAN AND ZONING OF THAT
AREA OF WATERFRONT PARK LOCATED BETWEEN AN EASTERLY
EXTENSION OF A STREET AND C STREET FROM INSTITUTIONAL TO
PARK
WHEREAS, the original land use plan and zoning designation for this land was Park
subsequent to the 1964 earthquake; and
WHEREAS, in 1991 the land use plan and zoning designation ofthis property was changed
from Park to Institutional to facilitate the development of a proposed dock; and
WHEREAS, the proposed dock project failed; and
WHEREAS, the property is part of the City of Seward Waterfront Park and is used for
camping and a pedestrian/bicycle path; and
WHEREAS, the Strategic Plan supports the protection of waterfront open space and
recommends maintaining the park zoning designation throughout Waterfront Park; and
WHEREAS, at its March 1, 2000 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a
public hearing, and recommended that the City Council change the land use plan and zoning
designati.on ofthis area of Waterfront Park back to Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OFTHE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. The City of Seward Land Use Plan and Zoning Maps are hereby amended by
changing the land use plan and zoning designation from Institutional to Park for that portion of
Waterfront Park located on both sides ofBallaine Boulevard between an easterly extension of A and
C Streets as identified on the zoning map attached as Exhibit A, hereby incorporated by reference,
and further described as follows:
Lots 3-6, Block 10, Federal Addition; Lots 1 and 2, Block 11, Federal Addition; that
portion of Tract A, U.S. Survey 1116 lying west of Ballaine Boulevard and east of
Sixth Avenue between A and B Streets; and the portions of Tract A, U.S. Survey
1116 and U.S. Survey 2830 located east of Ballaine Boulevard between A and C
Streets.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
10th day of April, 2000.
