<br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 01- <br /> <br />If/ILLE' <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND COMMERCE <br />ADVISORY BOARD, SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF A KENAI PENINSULA <br />BOROUGH SATELLITE OFFICE IN THE SEWARD AREA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward is located in excess of one hundred miles from the Borough government <br />center, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough has no physical presence in or near the city of Seward, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this lack of presence puts the citizens and the city of Seward at unique disadvantage when <br />dealing with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the city of Seward is impacted by non-city residents needing assistance with Kenai Peninsula <br />issues, and <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the city of Seward and surrounding area have numerous issues at the Borough government level; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many of these issues are formed a't various Borough commissions, service area boards and <br />assembly sub-committees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is a time consuming and financial burden on residents from this area to attend these <br />commissions, boards and assembly sub-committee meetings due to travel, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, attendance to these sub-assembly level meetings is not available via teleconference; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough has maintained an office in the city of Homer that is closer in <br />proximity to Borough offices since 1996; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is no single depository of up-to-date Borough information in Seward <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEWARD ADVISORY PORT AND COMMERCE <br />ADVISORY BOARD THAT <br /> <br />Section 1. That the board recognizes the importance of involvement of its citizens and supports local <br />involvement in government issues <br /> <br />Section 2. The board recognizes that the citizens of Seward and the surrounding area have difficulty <br />participating in the Kenai Peninsula Borough government <br /> <br />Section 3.
