HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2001-005 CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 2001-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD AUTHORIZE THE MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH STORM CHASERS, INCORPORATED (STORMCHASERS) TO REMOVE FOUR DERELICT BOATS AT THE SEWARD MARINE INDUSTRIAL CENTER(SMIC) FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $63,000. WHEREAS, there exists a number of abandoned and derelict boats in the upland storage area ofSMIC and the City of Seward has actively sought to dispose of these derelicts through established processes; and WHEREAS, these particular boats have been impounded by the City of Seward, have been surveyed by a marine surveyor and the process reviewed and monitored by the City Attorney; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward does not have the time, expertise or manpower to dispose of these derelicts; and WHEREAS, Storm Chaser's proposal benefits the city by removing four derelict boats from the upland area; and WHEREAS, it is in the city's best interest to further negotiate with this contract for the removal and disposal of other derelicts in the upland storage area, thereby addressing an area of growing concern for the Port and Commerce Advisory Board. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: . Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Storm Chasers for the removal offour derelict boats in the upland storage area of SMIC for a cost not to exceed $63,000. Section 2. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska include in this resolution authorization for the City Manager to negotiate with Storm Chasers for the removal of other derelict boats in the upland storage area of SMIC in any manner allowed by the City of Seward Code of Ordinances, policies or City Council directive.
