<br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2002-02 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND <br />COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING THE CITY OF <br />SEWARD OPPOSE THE RELOCATION OF THE SEWARD RECORDERS <br />OFFICE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there are original hand-written records dating back to 1800's located here in <br />Seward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the land recorders office has been located in Seward as long as Seward has <br />been in existence; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, relocating the Seward Recorder's office to Anchorage compromises local <br />access to the records by the general public and private enterprises of the recording district for which <br />it serves; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, if recordings are to be done in Anchorage, local users of the Seward recorders <br />office will be delayed several days; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this move will cause a negative economic impact to the Seward community and <br />will move jobs from Seward to Anchorage; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this relocation would also physically remove a large piece of the City Seward's <br />written history. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE PORT <br />AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Seward Port and Commerce Advisory Board urges the City Council to pass a <br />resolution opposing the relocation of the Seward Recorders Office <br /> <br />Section 2. Copies of that resolution should be forwarded to Senator John Torgerson, <br />Representative Ken Lancaster, City Lobbyist Kent Dawson, Sharon Young (State of Alaska <br />Recorder) and Stephanie Cole, Administrative Director for the Alaska State Court System <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the City of Seward, Alaska, Port and Commerce Advisory Board <br />this 3rd day of April, 2002. <br /> <br />AYES: Goodwill, Mercer, Kasischke, <br />Lechner, VanBuskirk, Wille <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: AItermatt, Jordan, Pruitt <br />ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br />THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> <br />~ <br />on Wille, Chair <br />
