CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2008-086 THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA Clark Corbridge, Mayor AYES: NOES: ABSENT: ABSTAIN: ATTEST: Jean Lewis, CMC City Clerk (City Seal) Council Agenda Statement Meeting Date: September 2, 2008 To: Phillip Oates, City Manager From: W.C. Casey, Public Works Director Agenda Item: Authorization for Pump Repairs BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: In early August of 2008, the City experienced a pump failure at the City's primary lift station (#3 Lift Station, by the waterfall). This lift station facility is the key to pumping "all" sewage from the City to the Lowell Point Wastewater Treatment Facility. We do have redundant pumping capabilities at this lift station. Staff feels that due to the "real" possibility of unexpected events (flooding, etc.) that it is in the City's best interest to repair the pump that failed, now. The vendor, Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc., has quoted us a "new pump" price of $34,460, with a 6 month delivery time. The vendor disassembled the old pump and determined that it could be fixed at a cost of $14,862, and an estimated repair time of 2-3 weeks. It is the recommendation of staff that the Seward City Council authorize the repair of the 2600 gpm Flygt 3300 pump at Lift Station #3. Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc. is the only authorized Flygt pump dealership in the State of Alaska. INTENT: The Seward City Council authorize the City Manager to initiate the repairs of the Flygt 3300 sewage pump at Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc. for an amount not-to-exceed $16,000. CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST: Where applicable, this resolution is consistent with the Seward City Code, Charter, Comprehensive Plans, Land Use Plans, Strategic Plan and City Council Rules of Procedures. Other: FISCAL NOTE: Funding in the amount of $16,000 is available in the Wastewater Enterprise Fund, Acct. # 703-7900- 5380. Approved by Finance Department: RECOMMENDATION: Council approve Resolution 2008-086, authorizing the City Manager to repair the Flygt 3300 pump at Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc., at a cost not-to-exceed $16,000. ____08/25!2008 15:55 FAY 9075835449 Alaska Pump & Supply ~ 001 oao~ao Municipal • Industrial Mining Olltield GroundwaterlEnvironmental Well Supplies Commercial Contractor Marine Domestic Rentals • Repairs • Field Service Testing DOpD g a~~oaQo oaoo 261 EAST 56TH ANCHORAGE, ALASKA 99518 PHONE: (907) 563-3424 FAX: (907) 562.5449 Quote #AKP28-0430 August 20, 2008 City of Seward Attn: Steve Audette Phone:907-224-4094 Fax: 907-224-5051 Steve, Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc is pleased to offer the following quote for your review. oT We received a Flygt Pump in for repair that does not have an identification tag on it, but from previous repair records believe it to be a Flygt Model 3300.181 pump.
