Adjournment Historic Preservation Commission Regular Meeting Agenda April I5, ?009 Ciry of Seward, Alaska Historic Preservation Commission 11'linutes March 18, 2009 Volume 2, Page 93 Call to Order The March 18`h, 2009 regular meeting of the Seward Historic Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:3~ p.m. by Chair Tom Swann. Opening Ceremony Commissioner Luther led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Roll Call There were present: Chair Thomas Swann presiding, and Jolund Luther John French Greg Carpenter Linda Lasota Absent was Doug Capra (excused) comprising a quorum of the Commission; and Patricia Linville, Library Director Ryan Reynolds, Library/Museum Staff Special Reports City Administration Report- Library Director Patty Linville reported on the following issues: • City staff had been reviewing the Stimulus Package information to take advantage of ay opportunities Seward qualifies for. • Linville stated the CLG grant for the planters has been received and the state was waiting on the 2009 Appropriations from the Federal Government. • The budget for HP was distributed to Commissioners. • Linville stated that Kim Kowalski responded that the insurance for the Historic Preservation Commission covers general liability, crime bond and travel insurance. Linville thanked Luther for his work on the brochure and poster. • Lasota asked the duties of the Handler for the Symposium. • Linvilled answered that the Handler would be available to give rides, answer questions. • Swann added that the Handler serves as an information source and helps keep the presenter on time. Alaska Historical Society- Doug Capra • None Photos for CLG Grant 2008 -Lasota • Luther responded that he had taken more pictures. • Carpenter asked about the Commission's camera availability on weekends. • Luther responded that he had the camera, and Commissioners should contact him if they wanted to take pictures. Accept the Resignation of Thomas Swann as Chair of the Seward Historic Preservation Committee. 2. Elect a new Chair and Vice Chair for the Seward Historic Preservation Commission. Motion (Swann/Lasota) New Business Item #1 - Accept the resignation of Thomas Swann as Chair of the Seward Historic Preservation Commission. Letter to City Manager from Rasmuson Foundation Linville stated that Rasmuson was scaling back funding due to increased economic diligcncc. Carpenter asked if this would affect the city. Linville responded that it would only affect new requests, and that Rasmuson was honoring all past agrccments. Carpenter inquired about the Jesse Lee Home status. Swann answered that the Jesse Lee Home would not be affected. 2. Statehood Symposium Handler Assignments Luther asked that he not be assigned as a handler so he could be frcc to film the symposium. Commission Comments- French stated that he looked at the CLG report forms and had completed them. Carpenter thanked Tom for his service as Chairman and asked about the Apri18`h work session with the City Council. Linville responded that the City Council wanted to know the HP Commission's goals, priorities, and accomplishments. Lasota informed the Commission that the Seward Marine Center is hosting a 20`" Anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill Lasota asked the Commission if they wanted to prepare for this. Luther recommended a work session to prepare for the upcoming City Council work session. April 15i at 6pm was recommended. Luther thanked Swann for his service.
