Adjournment Historic Preservation Commission Regular Meeting Agenda November 18, 2009 City of Seward, Alaska Historic Preservation Commission Minutes August 2009 Volume 2, Page 97 Call to Order The August 26 2009 regular meeting of the Seward Historic Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:57 p.m. by Chair Jolund Luther. Opening Ceremony Commissioner Lasota led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Roll Call There were present: Chair Jolund Luther presiding, and Torn Swann John French Linda Lasota Dave Hamner Absent was Monica Hinders comprising a quorum of the Commission; and Patricia Linville, Library Director Special Reports City Administration Report - Library Director Patty Linville reported on the following issues: • Worked with Clint Hutchison on historic inventory project. Drafted and signed contract with him • Attended Section 106 Essentials training in Anchorage Aug 18 -19 utilizing the CLG Travel Grant. Ryan Reynolds, Jolund Luther and John French also attended. • Library Museum project update • Attended the reception for Seward Mountain Haven on August 25. Community open house scheduled for September 19. Other Reports, Announcements & Presentations - Friends of the Jesse Lee Home Update- Swann- • None Website Updates- Luther- City of Seward, Alaska Historic Preservation Commission Minutes August 2009 Volume 2, Page 9 • Luther has been working with Clint Hutchison on the Historic Inventory database. He will be sending him pictures within the next few days. Photos for CLG Grant 2008 — Lasota • Lasota explained the details of the 2008 grant for Hamner. Report on Section 106 Training — Attendees • Luther and French reported on their attendance at the Section 106 Essentials training in Anchorage, and how that process relates to historic preservation in Seward. Citizens' Comments on Any Subject Except Those Items Scheduled For Public Hearing —None Approval of Agenda and Consent Agenda Motion (Luther/French) Approve the Agenda and Consent Agenda Motion Passed Unanimous Consent The following items were approved under the Consent Agenda: • Meeting Minutes for the June 17, 2009 Meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission Public Hearing — None Unfinished Business -None New Business - A. June 17, 2009 Regular Meeting Minutes B. Review Annual HP Award nominations C. Election of Chair and Vice -Chair D. Approve amended 2009 -2010 HP Priorities List Item A: • Minutes were approved by consent Item B: • French made a motion to approve the nomination. Swann seconded. The Commissioners discussed the nomination of Jacquie Pels. Commissioners were agreed on Pels nomination but asked if there were any nominations from the floor. There were none. The motion was passed unanimously. Item C: • Swann made a motion to nominate Luther for Chair and Lasota for Vice - chair. Hamner seconded. The motion carries with unanimous consent. City of Seward, Alaska Historic Preservation Commission Minutes August 2009 Volume 2, Page 97 Item D: • French made a motion to approve the amended HP Priorities for 2009 -2010. Swann seconded. Informational Items — (No action required)- • Commission requested new CLG Grant for Hoben Park Planters be placed on the next agenda for discussion. Commission Comments - All welcomed Dave Hamner to the Commission. Linville stated the budget sessions will fall in between regular HP meetings. Documents are due to City Admin on August 31. Budget meeting with Council is scheduled for October 21, 2009. Linville asked commissioners to send their budget requests to her as soon as possible. Swann asked that funds for matching portions of future CLG grants be included in the budget. Gary Stevens - Commissioners requested those attending dinner not spend more than a combined $100. Commission Comments - Hamner — Senate and House Bill introduced relaxing Historic Preservation funding that has been met with enthusiasm, especially from State Historic Preservation Officers, National Trust for Historic Preservation. Would forward information on the Bill. I Iinders — Thanked Jolund for work on FY `10 CLG Grant Lasota — Requested copy of minutes approved by Commission. Luther — Confirmed dates of training dates as 10/29, 10/30. Thanked Commissioners for attending the Special Meeting.
