Council has called a work session to determine the following:

`�` ? • Who will represent the City of Seward delegation during the 130th anniversary
celebration of our Sister City of Obihiro, Japan? Administration has asked Police Chief
Tom Clemons to represent city administration. The City Clerk is willing to attend if the

--Per direction of the Council, the City Clerk solicited interest from the public for anyone wishing to join this
' i delegation by posting such solicitation on the city's website, in the weekly City Calendar in the Phoenix Log, to the
City Clerk's community distribution email list, and posting a notice in City Hall, the Post Office, and the
arbormaster's Office. As of Friday, August 24, 2012, the clerk has not received any response to this request(but

will give an update at the work session if anything'progresses —the deadline to submit is 12:00 p.m. on Monday,

INVITATION TO ATTEND SIKULIAQ CHRISTENING AND LAUNCH CEREMONY
• Does the City Council wish to send council members to the launch of the Sikuliaq in
Marinette, Wisconsin? The date of the event is October 13, 2012. Research has also
been estimated to Marinette, Wisconsin to be approximately $1,400 per person (which
could be more or less,rental cars may or may not be needed—or could be shared, etc).

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA,APPROPRIATING$ FROM THE GENERAL FUND FUND
BALANCE, AND AUTHORIZING TOTAL EXPENDITURES OF $
FOR DELEGATION EXPENSES TO CELEBRATE OBIHIRO, JAPAN'S
130TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS,the City of Obihiro and the City of Seward have been Sister-Cities for 44 years;
and
•
WHEREAS,the City of Obihiro,Japanhas,invited a nine person delegation from the City of
Seward to travel to Japan in celebration of Obihiro-7§430t"Anniversary; and . .
WHEREAS,the approximate dates•of the trip are October 30—November 3, 2012; and
WHEREAS,the City of Obihiro will pay for'the_Seward delegation's expenses minus airfare

and lodging; and
WHEREAS. the City of Seward; will pay' ,for the travel expenses of

.WHEREAS,tli'eTCityof Seward will pay„for a gift for our Sister City of Obihiro,including
commemorative pins and small gifts to,our delegation counterparts; and
WHEREAS,the City of Seward also approves the following individuals as members of the
Seward Delegation, who will travel with the delegation - at their own expense:

WHEREAS, a goat of Seward's Comprehensive Plan is to"Enhance Seward's international
role in trade and tourism.”
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD,ALASKA that:
Section 1. The Council appropriates funds of$ from the General Fund Fund
Balance Account Number xxx-xxxx-xxxx, and authorizes total expenditures of$ to the
Promotion Account Number 101-1110-5730.
