CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2003-021
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, RESCINDING RESOLUTION 2003-012 AND AUTHORIZING
THE ACTING CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE 30 BATTERIES FROM
SEWARD HEAVY INDUSTRIAL POWER AT A PRICE NTE $16,800,
INCLUDING SHIPPING, TO BE USED AS STARTING BATTERIES FOR
GENERATORS #3, #4, #5, AND #6
WHEREAS, batteries are necessary for starting the emergency generators at Ft. Raymond
Substation; and
WHEREAS, batteries wear out over time and need to be replaced; and
WHEREAS, the starting batteries for Generators #4 & #5 were installed in 1984 and have
recently had a battery failure; and
WHEREAS, the starting batteries for Generators #3 & #6 were installed in 1973; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward mechanics who maintain these generators have
recommended that the starting batteries for units #3,#4, #5, and #6 be replaced; and
WHEREAS, Council previously passed Resolution 2003-012 authorizing the purchase ofthe
batteries for a price of$34,000; and
WHEREAS, new information and proposals have been received by the City of Seward
requiring the rescinding of Resolution 2003-102; and
WHEREAS, a quote of$16,800 (including shipping) has been received from Seward Heavy
Industrial Power; and
WHEREAS, it is vital that we maintain these units in a "Stand-by" generation mode to
protect the customers ofthe Electric Utility from the effects oflosing our main power supply from
CEA.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:

Section 1.
Resolution 2003-012 is hereby rescinded.
Section 2, The Acting City Manager be authorized to issue a purchase order to Seward
Heavy Industrial Power for an amount not to exceed $16,800 to purchase and have shipped to
Seward Thirty Engine Cranking Batteries.
Section 2.
Funding is available from Account 501-5400-5380.
Section 3.
This resolution to take effect immediately.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 24th
day of February, 2003.
