HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2002-007 I I I Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2002-007 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF THE FORT RAYMOND SATELLITE FIRE STATION, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PURSUE FUNDING. WHEREAS, the Community Strategic Plan and Comprehensive Plan identified objectives for public safety, transportation facilities and community appearance, and the completion of this station will provide to the people of Seward an upgrade in emergency response; and WHEREAS, the property located on Lot lOA, Fort Raymond Subdivision, Replat No.1, which is located adjacent to the Seward Highway, Sea Lion Avenue and Dimond Boulevard is owned by the city and is zoned institutional which allows emergency services as an outright use; and WHEREAS, the station will allow for a more timely response to emergencies located in existing as well as future expansion areas for the northern sections of the city; and WHEREAS, due to geographic location ofthe city and the potential for being physically divided during certain natural disasters, development ofthis new station will provide for positioning of resources in the area to better serve the community; and WHEREAS, fire protection is crucial to meet demands of any future development to include private, industrial and airport expansions. This location will help ensure continuance of current ISO ratings for the citizens and businesses of Seward; and WHEREAS, at the January 8th, 2002 Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting the Commission approved Resolution 2002-05, supporting the concept of the construction of the Fort Raymond Satellite North Fire Station at the proposed location. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA. Section 1. It is in the public interest to have a fire station located in the northern section of the community for providing resources in times of disaster and to promote development. Section 2. The City Administration is authorized to pursue any and all grant funding sources. Section 3. This resolution take effect immediately upon it's adoption.
