<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Failed <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2002-009 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO <br />AMENDMENT NO.1 TO THE LEASE AND OPERATING AGREEMENT <br />BETWEEN THE CITY OF SEWARD AND THE SISTERS OF PROVIDENCE <br />IN WASHINGTON D/B/A PROVIDENCE ALASKA MEDICAL CENTER <br />AMENDING THE TERMINATION NOTICE FROM 24 MONTHS TO 12 <br />MONTHS AND PROVIDING FOR OPERATIONAL LOSSES ABOVE <br />$600,000 TO BE REIMBURSED BY THE CITY. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Seward ("City") and Sisters of Providence in Washington doing <br />business as Providence Alaska Medical Center ("Providence") entered into a lease and operating <br />agreement ("Agreement") on July 1, 1996 for the purpose of operating the Seward Medical Center <br />(known as the Providence Seward Medical Center); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Providence has approached the City requesting two amendments to the <br />Agreement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the amendments would amend the termination notice from 24 months to 12 <br />months and provide for operational losses above $600,000 to be reimbursed by the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the continuation of Providence Seward Medical Center is a vital and important <br />service in the city of Seward. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into the attached Amendment No.1 to <br />the Agreement between the City of Seward and Sisters of Providence in Washington d/b/a <br />Providence Alaska Medical Center. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect 30 days following its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe city of Seward, Alaska, this I st day <br />of March, 2002. <br />
