<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sponsored by: Janke <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />RESOLUTION 2001-005 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, <br />ALASKA, APPROVING THE CITY OF SEWARD'S CALENDAR YEAR 2001 <br />FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, annually the City compiles a list ofprojects or issues that are identified as <br />top legislative priorities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the list of projects is compiled into a package that is then distributed to our <br />Congressional delegation, the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and our lobbyists; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this prioritized list validates the projects and greatly focuses the efforts of the <br />Administration in our lobbying effort; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, all the projects on this list are consistent with the City's Comprehensive and <br />Strategic Plans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the following projects are the City's priorities for the upcoming legislative <br />session: <br /> <br />Flood Mitigation <br />1. Long-term solution to a Lowell Creek Tunnel Failure <br />$25,000 for a Loss/Risk Analysis and Cost/Benefit of the impacts of a tunnel failure <br />Design and Engineering funding for a long-term mitigation measure <br />Transfer ownership to the Army corps of Engineers <br /> <br />Life/Safety <br />1. $150,000 to replace the police dispatch console <br /> <br />Economic Development <br />1, Construction funding for the East Harbor Expansion <br />$4.5 million for Corps of Engineers work on navigational items in President's budget <br />$8 million in additional funding is needed <br />2. $8 million for construction of the Interagency (MultiAgency) Facility <br />3. $10.71 million for upgrades to the Seward Shipyard <br />4. $20 million for completion of the North Dock <br />5. Secure Seward as the starting point for the Department of Defense fiber-optic link to the <br />Aleutians <br />
