CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2001-012
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF $1,000 TO THE SEWARD
HIGH SCHOOL, CLOSE UP WASHINGTON - 2001- PROGRAM, TO HELP
DEFRAY THE COST OF SIX STUDENTS TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON,
D.C.
WHEREAS, annually there is a school organized trip called Close Up that travels to
Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, a group of students will take this year's week long trip that is scheduled to
begin on April 7, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Close Up is a program that educates students about our country and its
government; and
WHEREAS, the students' education benefits our community because today's students are
tomorrow's leaders; and
WHEREAS, the overall cost for each student to attend will be $1,700; and
WHEREAS, students have been working on projects to raise funds, but more money is
requested to help fund the trip; and
WHEREAS, travel arrangements need to be made as soon as possible to insure the best
rates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section L The City Council authorizes the donation of$l ,000 from the Mayor and Council
Promotions Budget to Seward High School Close Up Washington D.C. Program.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd
day of January, 2001.
