<br />Sponsored by Jones <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-002 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING CITY CONCURRENCE TO A <br />MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT (MOA) FOR NATIONAL HISTORIC <br />PRESERVATION ACTSECTION 106 REVIEW OF THE INSTITUTE OF <br />MARINE SCIENCE (IMS) INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT <br />PROJECT (ALASKA SEA LIFE CENTER) <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) review of the Alaska <br />SeaLife Center (ASLC) project revealed the need to conduct a Section 106 compliance <br />under the National Historic Preservation Act as part of the EIS; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Agreement has been prepared that outlines the <br />responsibilities of each of the parties associated with the ASLC project to mitigate the <br />adverse impacts of the project on adjacent historic resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the city, as land owner, has been requested to concur to the historic <br />mitigation process outlined in the MOA; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission has reviewed the Cultural <br />Resources section of the EIS and the MOA and encourages careful consideration of the <br />impact on local historic resources during the development of the ASLC project; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City of Seward is encouraged to participate in the MOA, attached <br />herein by reference, providing for National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 review <br />of the Institute of Marine Science Infrastructure Improvement Project. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this <br />21st day of September, 1994. <br /> <br />THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br /> <br />
