<br />Sponsored by: Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95-06 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION, ESTABLISHING APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND ELIGIBILITY <br />CRITERIA FOR NOMINATIONS TO A SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES; <br />AND FORWARDING A PROPOSED ORDINANCE TO THE SEWARD CITY COUNCIL <br />TO CREATE A SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Historic Preservation Commission to work <br />toward the continuing education of citizens regarding local historic preservation and community <br />history; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places is the official list of recognized <br />properties judged against national standards, many local properties important in Seward's history <br />do not meet national standards; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, listing properties on a local Seward Register of Historic Places will help <br />change the way the community perceives its historic resources and encourage the efforts of private <br />citizens and public officials to preserve these resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Historic Commission in conjunction with the Resurrection Bay Historical <br />Society have developed an application procedure and eligibility criteria for nomination to a <br />Seward Register of Historic Places. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The following procedure will be used to nominate a property to the Seward <br />Register of Historic Places: <br /> <br />1. Obtain an application (sample attached) and information brochure from the City <br />Community Development Department, Seward Museum or Community Library. <br />2. Submit the completed draft application to the Resurrection Bay Historical Society <br />for review, comments and recommendation to the Historic Preservation Commis- <br />sion. <br />3. Submit final application to Seward Historic Commission for approval and <br />recommendation to City Council. <br />
