HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1990-002 Sponsored by: Schaefermever CITY OF SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 90-002 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF PROPOSED ORDINANCE 638, AUTHORIZING LAND USE PLAN AND ZONING DISTRICT AMENDMENTS AS SUBMITTED BY THE CITY OF SEWARD FOR THAT PORTION OF THE WATERFRONT PARK BETWEEN EXTENSIONS OF A STREET AND C STREET WHEREAS, the city and the state have been working toward the development of a new marine highway system dock and terminal in Seward; and WHEREAS, the most practical site for such a development lies within the Waterfront Park between an extension of A Street and C Street; and WHEREAS, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, as owner and project manager of the Marine Highway System facilities, has stated that the Federal Highway Administration, the primary funding source, precludes the development of such facilities within publicly owned public parks and recreation areas; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward staff administration has proposed a change in the land use designation of a portion of the Waterfront Park between extensions of A Street and C Street for the purpose of maintaining development options for a new state ferry terminal and dock; and WHEREAS, the present zoning district and land use plan designation of the subject property is PARK; and WHEREAS, the proposed zoning district and land use plan designation for the affected property is INSTITUTIONAL; and WHEREAS, the appropriate public hearing as required was conducted by the Commission on December 5, 1990; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION of the City of Seward that: Section 1. Ordinance 638 changing the land use designation and the zoning district from PARK to INSTITUTIONAL for that portion of the Waterfront Park between an extension of A Street and C Street is hereby recommended to the City Council of the City of Seward. PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 90-002 Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission, this 5th day of December, 1990.
