The proposed variance request for an internally illuminated free standing sign is found to satisfy the conditions specified in Section 12.10.055 of the Seward City Code in that: a. The variance does not constitute a grant of special privileges inconsistent with the limitation upon signage and uses of other property in the vicinity; b. The variance as requested will not be materially detrimental to the public welfare or injurious to the property or improvements in the vicinity; and c. Al though they were not part of the variance request, the AAA logo sign and the Best Western logo located on a lamp post and trash container respectively, are located within the public right of way and should be removed to be consistent with the City Code. Section 2. The City Clerk is authorized to issue a Sign Variance Permit to Brad Snowden, dba New Seward Hotel and Best Western Hotel Seward to allow an internally illuminated free standing sign in the northeast corner of Lot 8, Block 9, Original Townsite. Section 3. Said permit is subject to the removal of the AAA logo sign from the light post located within the public right of way and the relocation of the Best Western logo-trash container off the public right of way. Seward Planning and Zoning commission Resolution No. 91-005 Section 4. The Planning Commission finds it in the public interest to DENY the request for a 4x4 foot internally lit Best Western sign to be erected on the hotel roof because the height of the sign would exceed the maximum allowable building height within the city of Seward.
