<br />Sponsored by Schaefermeyer <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 92-006 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING <br />COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL <br />RESCIND RESOLUTION NO. 85-106 AND REDEFINE THE <br />ROLE OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO INCLUDE THE <br />DUTIES OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Resolution No. 85-106 designated the Seward Planning and Zoning <br />Commission as the local historic district commissionj and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the city of Seward desires to achieve certified local government status <br />in order to qualify to apply for grant funds which are available to the city of Seward and <br />private individualsj and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a historic preservation commission must be established in order for <br />the city to qualify as a certified local government for historic preservation purposesj <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission will, in addition to established duties, <br />undertake specified historic preservation duties including survey and inventory, review <br />of nominations to the National Register, preservation education and advice and <br />enforcement of local and state preservation lawsj <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. It is recommended that the City Council rescind Resolution No. 85-106. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council is urged to enact an ordinance redefining the role of <br />the Planning and Zoning Commission to include the duties of the historic preservation <br />commission. as outlined in Attachment A, incorporated herein by reference. <br /> <br />Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this <br />1st day of April, 1992. <br />
